Center Street (Off-System) Construction Notice

Starting July 13, 2026, and continuing through summer 2027, construction crews will be visible at the 5-way traffic stop at West Center Street and Old Stagecoach Road.

Work includes potholing and building drainage improvements as part of the Center Street (Off-System) 2022 Road Bond Project. This work is independent and unaffected by ongoing intersection reevaluations.

All lanes will stay open, and traffic will not be impacted. Construction barrels along the edge of the road will mark relevant work zones.

We ask that drivers increase their awareness and slow down in work zones. Construction zones protect workers, drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Summer 2026

Old Stagecoach Road North - Final Design

The final design plans (100% PS&E) are under review. In addition, all right-of-way is expected to be complete by Summer 2026.

Old Stagecoach Road - Final Design

The final design was submitted on June 24, 2026. Four parcels remain to be acquired. Utility relocation is expected to begin in Summer 2026.

Center Street (Off TxDOT System) - Construction

Construction is underway following the Notice to Proceed issued on June 22, 2026.

Ongoing activities include stormwater pollution prevention measures for Phase 1 Stage A and potholing to identify existing utilities before construction progresses.

Upcoming work includes installation of property fencing within the new right-of-way, pond construction, storm drainage infrastructure, reinforced concrete pipe, inlets, manholes, culvert replacement, and a new detour that will allow work to continue in other project areas while supporting ongoing roundabout evaluations.

Overview

The City of Kyle is improving a 2.2-mile stretch of Old Stagecoach Road North, Old Stagecoach Road, and Center Street to reduce traffic congestion, enhance safety, and improve traffic flow. Funded by the 2022 Road Bond, the project focuses on roadway widening and reconstruction from Veterans Drive (RM 150) along Old Stagecoach Road North and Old Stagecoach Road. Old Stagecoach Road North will become a four-lane roadway, while Old Stagecoach Road will be widened to three lanes. On Center Street, the existing three-lane section will be improved by widening the center lane to enhance operations. To accelerate delivery, all three segments of the project will be bid and constructed independently.

2022 Road Bond Update

Per City Council direction on July 7, 2026, we are conducting updated traffic studies to reevaluate intersections throughout the City of Kyle. A recommendation will be provided once updated data has been collected and analyzed. Pedestrian facility is also being evaluated. Due to these ongoing evaluations, current plans are subject to change.

Old Stagecoach Road North will be expanded to a four-lane roadway, while Old Stagecoach Road will be widened to three lanes. Improvements on Center Street include widening the existing center lane to enhance traffic operations. Two new intersection improvements will be constructed at the intersection of Six Creeks Boulevard and Old Stagecoach Road North, and at the intersection of Center Street and Old Stagecoach Road. 

  • To accelerate delivery, the project will be constructed in three independent segments: 

    • Old Stagecoach Road North: approximately 0.50 miles from Six Creeks Boulevard to Veterans Drive 

    • Old Stagecoach Road: approximately 1.02 miles from Center Street to Six Creeks Boulevard 

    • Center Street (Off-System): approximately 0.62 miles from Veterans Drive to Old Stagecoach Road 

    Together, these segments improve a key transportation corridor that connects nearby residential neighborhoods to major roadways, enhancing safety, mobility, and overall traffic flow. 

  • The planned improvements include: 

    • Reconstructing and widening the roadway to improve traffic flow and accommodate future growth 

    • Constructing intersection improvements at Six Creeks Boulevard and Old Stagecoach Road, and Center Street and Old Stagecoach Road to enhance safety and traffic operations 

    • New pedestrian routes to improve safety and mobility for all users 

    • Culvert upgrades and new curb and gutter construction, helping to reduce flooding and protect the roadway 

  • The Old Stagecoach Road and Center Street corridor currently faces traffic congestion, safety concerns, and drainage challenges due to increased traffic volumes and aging infrastructure. These improvements are needed to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and address flood-prone areas, ensuring the roadway can meet both current and future transportation needs for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

    • Old Stagecoach Road North: Design is ongoing and construction is anticipated Fall 2026 through Fall 2027. 

    • Old Stagecoach Road: Design is complete, and all right-of-way has been secured, pending four parcel dedications. Construction is anticipated for Fall 2026 through Fall 2027.  

    • Center Street (Off-System): A contractor has been selected, and the project is advancing toward construction. Construction is anticipated Summer 2026 through Summer 2028. 

  • Because this project covers 2.2 miles across three segments, impacts will vary by location and phase of construction. Residents and drivers can expect lane reductions, detour routes at key intersections, and construction equipment along the corridor for an extended period. During roundabout construction at Six Creeks Boulevard and at Center Street, temporary traffic control measures including flagging operations will be in place. Property and driveway access will be maintained throughout construction. The City will communicate segment-specific updates through posted signage and KyleRoadBonds.com as each phase progresses.
