Summer 2026

Design remains at 95% completion. Bid plans and advertising remain dependent on the water utilities agreement with the City of Kyle, the utility overhead/underground decision, and the ongoing roundabout analysis. Right-of-way acquisition remains on hold due to the intersection analysis.

Overview

This project will improve and expand Bunton Creek Road from Lehman Road to Porter Cove, including intersection improvements, widened travel lanes, and upgraded pedestrian and bicycle facilities. The project also includes reconstructing and improving the existing roundabout at the intersection of Bunton Creek Road and S. Goforth Road.

2022 Road Bond Update

Per City Council direction on July 7, 2026, we are conducting updated traffic studies to reevaluate intersections throughout the City of Kyle. A recommendation will be provided once updated data has been collected and analyzed. Pedestrian facility is also being evaluated. Due to these ongoing evaluations, current plans are subject to change.

  • Length: Approximately 1.2 miles

    Location: From Lehman Road to Porter Cove

    • Realign curves to improve safety

    • Widen roadway to accommodate higher traffic volumes

    • Reconstruct roundabout at Goforth Road South for better traffic flow

    • Upgrade infrastructure to meet modern standards for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians

  • Construction funded by the City of Kyle’s 2022 Road Bond

    Total Project Cost = $28.6 M

    • Design Phase: Began in 2024 with City Council approval of a design contract to BGE Inc.

    • Requests for Construction Proposals: Scheduled for Winter 2025

    • Construction: Fall 2026 and anticipated to be complete in Summer 2028

  • In November 2022, Kyle voters approved Proposition A, authorizing $294.4 million in funding to construct, expand, and upgrade roadways and infrastructure across the city. Proposition A in the 2022 Road Bond Program includes eight roadway projects totaling 10.3 miles. These projects support current and long-term growth in the City of Kyle by increasing mobility, reducing congestion, enhancing safety, and strengthening community connectivity for drivers and pedestrians.   • The Bunton Creek Road Improvement Project will widen and reconstruct a 1.2-mile section of Bunton Creek Road between Lehman Road and Porter Cove. Planned improvements include realigning existing curves to enhance safety, increasing roadway capacity to accommodate higher traffic volumes, constructing intersection improvements at South Goforth Road to enhance safety and traffic operations, and new pedestrian facilities to improve safety and mobility for all users. 

  • The project extends approximately 1.2 miles from Lehman Road to Porter Cove. This section serves as a critical east-west connection between residential and commercial areas being developed on the east side of town. 

  • The planned improvements include: 

    • Widening the roadway to two travel lanes in each direction, along with dedicated center turn lane to accommodate higher traffic volume 

    • Improvements to roadway alignment by smoothing existing curves to enhance safety and visibility  

    • New pedestrian facilities to improve safety and mobility for all users   

    • Improved drainage infrastructure through culvert upgrades and new curb and gutter construction, helping reduce flooding and protect the roadway   

    • Constructing intersection improvements at S. Goforth to enhance safety and traffic operations 

  • Bunton Creek Road currently experiences capacity limitations, safety challenges, and drainage issues due to increased traffic and aging infrastructure. These improvements will enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and address flood-prone areas to ensure the roadway meets both current and future transportation needs. 

  • The Bunton Creek Road Improvement Project is funded through the City of Kyle's 2022 Road Bond Program (Proposition A), approved by Kyle voters in November 2022. Proposition A authorized $294.4 million in funding to construct, expand, and upgrade roadways and infrastructure across the city, with eight roadway projects totaling 10.3 miles. The estimated construction cost for the Bunton Creek Road project is $28.6 million. Cost includes project design, right-of-way acquisition, utility coordination, and construction.   • Preliminary analysis for the Bunton Creek Road Improvement Project began in 2024. Design and environmental analysis are complete, and the project is preparing to move into the contractor selection phase in Fall 2026, during which qualified contractors will submit construction proposals for City review. Following contractor selection and City approval, construction is anticipated to begin in Fall 2026 and be complete in Summer 2028.  

  • Residents, commuters, and businesses along Bunton Creek Road can expect temporary lane reductions, detour routes, and construction activity along the full 1.2-mile corridor. The intersection improvements at South Goforth Road may require temporary traffic control measures, including flagging operations, during key phases of work. Driveway and property access will be maintained throughout construction. Updates on traffic impacts and detours will be posted at KyleRoadBonds.com as construction progresses. 

  • Before construction begins, "Coming Soon" signs will be placed along Bunton Creek Road to notify the community of upcoming work. The project team will continue coordinating with utility providers and finalizing construction schedules to minimize disruptions. Once construction begins, the City's Road Bond Website will share regular updates on traffic impacts, detours, and progress milestones.
