Project Updates

Summer 2026

Center Street (On TxDOT System)- Design

Design remains at 55% completion. The 60% design submittal is scheduled for Fall 2026, and the TxDOT response-to-comments meeting remains to be determined.

Center Street (Off TxDOT System) - Construction

Construction continues following the Notice to Proceed issued on June 22, 2026. The baseline schedule received on August 25, 2026, remains under review. Ongoing construction activities include potholing to identify existing utilities and implementation of a detour between Veterans Drive and Ranger Street along Center Street.

Upcoming work includes storm drainage infrastructure, reinforced concrete pipe, inlets, manholes, culvert replacement, and a new westbound traffic detour along Veterans Drive, Gregg Drive, and Ranger Street before returning to Center Street. Property fencing within the new right-of-way, stormwater pollution prevention measures, and pond construction remain on hold. Traffic Control Plan coordination with the City is ongoing, utility relocation is expected to begin in Fall 2026, and utility coordination has confirmed that its facilities will remain above ground.

Overview

On Center Street the existing three-lane section will be improved by widening the center lane to enhance operations.

2022 Road Bond Update

Per City Council direction on July 7, 2026, we are conducting updated traffic studies to reevaluate intersections throughout the City of Kyle. A recommendation will be provided once updated data has been collected and analyzed. Pedestrian facility is also being evaluated. Due to these ongoing evaluations, current plans are subject to change.

    Center Street (Off-System)

    Length: 0.62 miles

    Location: Old Stagecoach Road to Veterans Drive (RM 150)

    • Expand Center Street from two lanes to three lanes to increase capacity

    • Enhance drainage and supporting utilities along the corridor

    • Improve sidewalks and pedestrian crossings for better downtown accessibility

  • In November 2022, Kyle voters approved Proposition A, authorizing $294.4 million in funding to construct, expand, and upgrade roadways and infrastructure across the city. Proposition A in the 2022 Road Bond Program includes eight roadway projects totaling 10.3 miles. These projects support current and long-term growth in the City of Kyle by increasing mobility, reducing congestion, enhancing safety, and strengthening community connectivity for drivers and pedestrians.   • The Center Street Improvement Project is a planned roadway expansion and infrastructure upgrade in downtown Kyle. The project will expand Center Street from Veterans Drive to Main Street. These improvements aim to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and improve mobility for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists traveling through Kyle's downtown core. 

  • The project takes place on approximately 1.02 miles of Center Street from Old Stagecoach Road to Main Street in downtown Kyle. This location was selected for improvements to enhance connectivity and accessibility throughout downtown Kyle and adjacent neighborhoods. 

  • Center Street will be widened to provide one travel lane in each direction, along with a dedicated center turn lane to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The intersection at Veterans Drive (RM 150) will be improved to enhance safety and traffic operations. The project will also include drainage infrastructure improvements, and new pedestrian routes and crossing enhancements to improve safety and mobility for all users.  

  • Downtown Kyle is experiencing increased traffic congestion as more residents, visitors, and businesses travel along Center Street to access the heart of the community. The existing roadway has limited capacity, which contributes to delays and safety challenges. Expanding and improving Center Street will help traffic move more efficiently and safely between neighborhoods, downtown destinations, and other key city corridors. 

  • The Center Street Improvement Project is funded through the City of Kyle's 2022 Road Bond Program (Proposition A), approved by Kyle voters in November 2022. Proposition A authorized $294.4 million in funding to construct, expand, and upgrade roadways and infrastructure across the city, with eight roadway projects totaling 10.3 miles. Approximately $10.2 million has been allocated for the construction of this project. Cost includes project design, right-of-way acquisition, utility coordination, and construction.   • The design phase began in 2024. Because this project is located on a state highway, it requires coordination and approval from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) before moving forward. Once design is complete and approvals are in place, the project will move into the contractor selection phase, during which qualified contractors will submit construction proposals for City review. Construction is anticipated from Summer 2027 through Winter 2028.  

  • Because this project takes place in downtown Kyle, impacts will be felt by residents, businesses, and visitors who travel through the area daily. Lane reductions along Center Street between Veterans Drive and Main Street will be in effect during active construction phases. The City will work closely with downtown businesses to maintain access and visibility throughout the project. Pedestrian detour routes will be clearly marked when sidewalks are under construction.
