Center Street (Off-System) Construction Notice

Starting July 13, 2026, and continuing through summer 2027, construction crews will be visible at the 5-way traffic stop at West Center Street and Old Stagecoach Road.

Work includes potholing and building drainage improvements as part of the Center Street (Off-System) 2022 Road Bond Project. This work is independent and unaffected by ongoing intersection reevaluations.

All lanes will stay open, and traffic will not be impacted. Construction barrels along the edge of the road will mark relevant work zones.

We ask that drivers increase their awareness and slow down in work zones. Construction zones protect workers, drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. 

Project Updates

Summer 2026

Center Street (On TxDOT System)- Design

Design for the on-system portion of Center Street (RM 150) is at about 55% completion. Submittal for 60% of the design plan is scheduled for Fall 2026. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Review and Technical Coordination meeting remains to be determined.

Center Street (Off TxDOT System) - Construction

Construction is underway following the Notice to Proceed issued on June 22, 2026.

Ongoing activities include stormwater pollution prevention measures for Phase 1 Stage A and potholing to identify existing utilities before construction progresses.

Upcoming work includes storm drainage infrastructure, reinforced concrete pipe, inlets, manholes, culvert replacement, and a new detour that will allow work to continue in other project areas while supporting ongoing roundabout evaluations. Property fence installation and pond construction remain on hold. Traffic Control Plan coordination with the City is also ongoing.

On Center Street the existing three-lane section will be improved by widening the center lane to enhance operations.

2022 Road Bond Update

Per City Council direction on July 7, 2026, we are conducting updated traffic studies to reevaluate intersections throughout the City of Kyle. A recommendation will be provided once updated data has been collected and analyzed. Pedestrian facility is also being evaluated. Due to these ongoing evaluations, current plans are subject to change.

  • In November 2022, Kyle voters approved Proposition A, authorizing $294.4 million in funding to construct, expand, and upgrade roadways and infrastructure across the city. Proposition A in the 2022 Road Bond Program includes eight roadway projects totaling 10.3 miles. These projects support current and long-term growth in the City of Kyle by increasing mobility, reducing congestion, enhancing safety, and strengthening community connectivity for drivers and pedestrians.   • The Windy Hill Road Improvement Project will reconstruct and widen the existing roadway while addressing drainage and flooding concerns through culvert and stormwater upgrades. The project also includes intersection improvements at Cherrywood to enhance safety and traffic operations. Once complete, these enhancements will improve traffic flow, increase safety, and provide long-term reliability for this important east-west connection. 

  • The project takes place on approximately 0.4 miles of Center Street from Veterans Drive to Main Street in downtown Kyle. This location was selected for improvements to enhance connectivity and accessibility throughout downtown Kyle and adjacent neighborhoods. 

  • Center Street will be widened to provide one travel lane in each direction, along with a dedicated center turn lane to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. The intersection at Veterans Drive (RM 150) will be improved to enhance safety and traffic operations. The project will also include drainage infrastructure improvements, and new pedestrian routes and crossing enhancements to improve safety and mobility for all users.  

  • Downtown Kyle is experiencing increased traffic congestion as more residents, visitors, and businesses travel along Center Street to access the heart of the community. The existing roadway has limited capacity, which contributes to delays and safety challenges. Expanding and improving Center Street will help traffic move more efficiently and safely between neighborhoods, downtown destinations, and other key city corridors. 

  • The Center Street Improvement Project is funded through the City of Kyle's 2022 Road Bond Program (Proposition A), approved by Kyle voters in November 2022. Proposition A authorized $294.4 million in funding to construct, expand, and upgrade roadways and infrastructure across the city, with eight roadway projects totaling 10.3 miles. Approximately $10.2 million has been allocated for the construction of this project. Cost includes project design, right-of-way acquisition, utility coordination, and construction.   • The design phase began in 2024. Because this project is located on a state highway, it requires coordination and approval from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) before moving forward. Once design is complete and approvals are in place, the project will move into the contractor selection phase, during which qualified contractors will submit construction proposals for City review. Construction is anticipated from Summer 2027 through Winter 2028.  

  • Because this project takes place in downtown Kyle, impacts will be felt by residents, businesses, and visitors who travel through the area daily. Lane reductions along Center Street between Veterans Drive and Main Street will be in effect during active construction phases. The City will work closely with downtown businesses to maintain access and visibility throughout the project. Pedestrian detour routes will be clearly marked when sidewalks are under construction.
